Women are widely under-represented in shaping the standards that affect so many areas of our lives. Many standards do not account for the ways in which they may impact women and men differently. This hampers progress towards gender equality (Sustainable Development goal 5) and also undermines the potential of standards as powerful tools to support sustainable development. This is why on 14 May 2019, over 50 standards organizations from around the world signed the UNECE’s Declaration on Gender Responsive Standards and Standards Development.
